As with most new technology, at first I was confused trying to figure everything out on the voicethread website. After getting more comfortable with the website, though, I found it to be very easy to navigate. Just as we had access to a tutorial video and other references, for my future classroom, I also find such tools necessary. Especially since I want to teach elementary school, tutorials and guided help will be needed by younger children. Once students gain confidence with the website, they can then work independently.
I think incorporating voicethreads into a lesson is a very creative way for students to work on their speaking and reading skills. After children have written their stories, next they are able to show the teacher how well they can pronounce words and read with emotion. Students are also able to gain more self-confidence in their speaking. I really feel like elementary students, mainly upper elementary, would really enjoy using this website. Children really love working with technology, and I believe they would feel so accomplished after writing their very own story and creating a personalized voicethread for it. There are so many ways to showcase the class’s knowledge, either by having individual stories, group stories, or even whole class stories. Parents could also log in online and view their child’s stories and other children in the class.
